Alan F. Johnston

Alan Johnston, a partner in the law firm, having joined the firm in 2016. Alan’s practice areas include contracts, contract litigation, business litigation, criminal defense, family law, general litigation, personal injury, wills and trusts.

Alan is an Idaho Falls native, born and raised near Teresa Bunker Elementary School. He was admitted to the Idaho State Bar in September of 2007. Alan graduated from the University of Idaho College of Law where he made honor role 5 of his 6 semesters. While at law school, Alan worked as a teaching assistant for the Legal Research and Writing Professors, teaching the first year law students. Alan also volunteered time in the schools Legal Aid Clinic, interned at the Idaho Falls firm of Hopkins Roden Crockett Hansen & Hoopes, and served a clerkship for the Honorable Judge James C. Herndon in Blackfoot, ID.

Alan began his legal career working at the law firm E.W. Pike and Associates, where he worked with legendary Idaho Falls attorney Ted Pike. Alan became a partner in the firm, and the name changed to Pike Herndon Stosich & Johnston, PA in 2009. Alan joined Murray Ziel as a partner in 2016.

Alan is active in the local bar, being a former President of the Eagle Rock Inns of Court, as is currently an officer for the 7th Judicial District bar association.

Prior to Law School, Alan attended Brigham Young University- Idaho where he received his bachelors degree in History with minors in Communications and Education. Alan was involved in student government, and was the director of New Student Orientation. Alan’s main focus while in undergraduate school was his participation with the University Debate and Speech team where he won numerous national honors.

Alan attended Idaho Falls High School, and presently lives on the west side of town. While attending BYU-Idaho, he married Patricia Johnston. They have three children named Ryan, Mari, and Fred. While not working, Alan is involved with various church activities and his family. He also enjoys social activities, running, hiking, camping, and sports.
